Planning your dream wedding can bring up a flurry of questions, especially when it comes to preserving those unforgettable moments.

Below, I've gathered answers to the most common inquiries about my wedding photography style and services. Let's make this process as clear and seamless as possible for you!

How long have you been photographing weddings?

I have been a professional wedding photographer since 2010, and have photographed in the region of 500 weddings so far (I’ve lost count!) From intimate back garden weddings with just close family, to extravagant castle weddings with hundreds of guests – I’ve seen it all! You can rest assured that you’ll be in capable hands, and I’ll always be happy to share my wedding knowledge with you to help the day flow smoothly.

How would you describe your style?

I always find this question difficult to answer as there’s not really a set style that I work to, I try to learn as much about each couple as I can before the wedding day so I can get a feel for just what they want and I’ll adapt the way I photograph to suit. If I had to put a name to it I’d say I was a creative documentary photographer. For most of the wedding day you won’t know I’m there, I try to blend in as much as I can and will always be looking for the smiles and laughter throughout the day.

How long will you stay for on the wedding day?

I believe in capturing the whole story of your day, so I will be with you from the morning preparations, usually 2-3 hours before the start of the ceremony, right through to the evening for around an hour after the first dance to capture the evening fun. Unlike other photographers, I don’t work by the hour for my full day coverage option, so you can rest assured that if timings start to run later than planned in the evening I won’t be checking my watch and I’ll still be there to catch everything!

How many photographs will we receive?

I generally don’t stop taking photos for the whole day, aside from during the wedding breakfast. The quantity taken is dependent on a range of factors (how many guests there are, the number of locations used throughout the day, and the time of year). I don’t set a maximum limit and will supply an edited set that tells the story of your day in full. It usually varies from around 500 for small or winter weddings, through to 700+ for larger or summer weddings.

Will you take photos of the groom as well as the bride before the wedding?

I usually try to visit both the bride as well as the groom before the ceremony if both are getting ready in the same venue, or within a few minutes of each other. Normally I will first visit the bride whilst she has her hair and make up done, and capture details such as the dress and shoes and some informal photos with family and bridesmaids. If the guys are getting ready far away at a separate location and you want their part of the day capturing too, you can add on a second photographer for an additional £350 and they will stay up until the early evening. It also means that you will get photos from different angles which might not be possible with just one photographer, such as during the ceremony, as well as extended coverage during the drinks reception of guests and the speeches whilst I concentrate on the bridal party.

Do you take group photos as well as candids?

I sure do! I’m happy to take a limited amount of group photos of family and important guests and work to a pre-arranged list (I say to stick to no more than 8 in total, otherwise it can take over too much of the day), and this can be discussed at the pre-wedding meeting. It is best for everyone if no longer than 30 minutes is spent on the group photos, and your ushers can play their part in gathering people together to speed up the process.

Do you charge travel expenses?

Travel expenses for the wedding day for weddings within all of the will be covered within my standard wedding pricing. I’m more than happy to cover weddings across the whole of the UK and even abroad, please get in touch for pricing.

Are you insured?

Yep there’s no worries there, all my equipment is fully insured and I am covered by public liability and indemnity insurance.

Can you tell us about the pre-wedding shoot?

I always enjoy doing a pre-wedding shoot with my couples, it’s a fun and relaxed session that is a great way for us all to get to know each other, and for you both to get used to having your photograph taken. I’d say it’s especially important to have the shoot if you’re nervous about having your photograph taken (don’t worry, most people are!) A mid-week shoot within the York area is included in my full day pricing, but if there’s a special place you’d like to visit instead then that’s no problem, I’d just need to add on a small amount for extra mileage. I try to arrange the shoot about a month before the wedding day, but I’ve done them a whole year before, or even 2 days before the wedding! This is also a great time to go through the plans for the day and to talk over the photographs that you want me to take. You will receive around 50 photos from the shoot via an online gallery, where you can download the high resolution prints. You can also use the photos to put a signing board or guest book together, which I can arrange for you.

When will we be able to see our photographs?

I always aim to get the photos done for you within a month, but during peak season this may be slightly longer. Of course, during off-peak months the wait will usually be a lot less! Once ready, I’ll send out a link to your online gallery, where you can download the high-resolution edited files, and then share the gallery with friends and family.

What equipment do you use?

I use professional digital cameras and lenses by Sony, currently the top of the range A9 model. These are highly capable for weddings as they are well renowned for their low light capabilities and quick focusing systems, ideal for catching those important moments, even in the darkest of venues! I always carry 2 cameras with me to each wedding and a range of lenses, plus another back up in the car. This means that not only do I have a spare camera in case one breaks during the day, but also that I don’t have to stop taking photos if I need to change from a wide to a zoom lens for example, and can carry on taking photos and not miss any important moments throughout the day. I prefer to use natural light, but I always have a few flashes I can use when it starts to get dark.

What albums do you supply?

My current range are hand picked from the very best UK wedding album manufacturers. All the albums I use are hand finished, have edge-to-edge printing, and open out flat to allow images to be spread right across two pages with no loss of the image in the centre crease. A wide variety of sizes and covers are available, including leather, linen and photo-cover.

Can we see the album design before it goes to print?

Yes, I will put a design together using your favourite chosen images and then send an electronic copy of the page layouts. I want your album to be as perfect as possible and to your exact specifications before going to print.

How long will our album take to arrive?

All of my albums are made in the UK, so there’s no waiting for 3 months for your album to arrive from the other side of the globe! Once you have signed off the design, depending on the album chosen it will take about 2 weeks for it to be delivered.

We’d love to book you! How do we secure the date?

I just need to take a deposit of £400 to confirm the booking to get you into my calendar, the remaining package price is then due a month before the wedding day.
